Well, after three years of 'joint work', we met in Raasepori for the final oficial meeting. Hopefully "Tales" will keep on growing and developing our pupils knowledge about each other's feelings and ways of living. Even though we are so distant as north and south can be we have built a huge bridge between us under "Book of Seasons". Let's keep it alive!

Project meeting in Raasepori, May 6-9, 2009
















Tammisaari is now only one part of a greater municipality, which is called Raasepori in Finnish, Raseborg in Swedish. This is because three municipalities decided to unit into one, bigger town. Therefore our last project meeting was in Raasepori - two years ago we met in Tammisaari!


Our hosts had prepared everything so well that we, the guests were speechless out of amazement, such was their hospitality. We learned both of Finnish culture and also felt the warmthness of their hearts!



The official project program was to look back and evaluate the activities of the past two years. Our joint decision was to give them 4 points out of the 5 possible, i.d. almost all the goals that we set us in the beginning had been reached. But it is always possible to do even better, and we as humans alsways want to reach higher and do better!


After the final report was clear, the guests visited all the Comenius classes in Hakarinteen koulu. Later I will write more about the meeting, but now only some photos:

Raseborg takes its name of the old medieval castle which once was very important to the defence of the country and for trading. Because the land around the Baltic Sea rises all the time the castle is not any longer on the coast, but it is a tourist attraction.


At this time of the year there are a lot of white anemones in the woods around Tammisaari.


The school desks of the Finnish children caugth the attention of our school principal, Magnea.


The chief of the office of school and educational matters in Raseborg, Jukka Hautaviita, invited the guests to have a lunch with him and made a speech where he stressed the importance of people being together and learning from each other. Marjatta Ísberg, the project coordinator, thanked him on behalf of the guests.

Hyvää kesää - Have a nice summer - Thank you for the winter


We all surely join Sabina's and the Italians' wish of friendship that lasts longer than the project. Let us hopa that our schools will be bound together with a lasting bond.


Now that the winter is over - yes, according to the Icelandic calender tomight is the last day of the winter - there are only 15 minutes left of it when I am writing this - I, according to the old Icelandic traditions, wish you all a very good summer and thank you for the past winter. Since I cannot kiss you (also an Icelandic tradition), I send you a nice photo of two of our pupils, while they performed Sonia and Rosy during their visit to Digranes in 2008. They are dancing to the old tune of "My Grandpa and my Grandma live on a hill farm..."

VISIT FROM FINLAND IN CORDENONS !



We just had special guests from Hakarinne school: Taina, Heli, Anne and Eveliina here in our Circolo Didattico! Unfortunately they stayed here only two days, we definitively think time runs too fast during our Comenius meeting...


They visited the E. De Amicis where the pupils performed in English songs of seasons, and a special rehearsal “BIG BANG”, played with music and dance on how life came to earth, knowing the youngest later at the Gianni Rodari.




On Friday they where at the Duca D'Aosta where the second grades dramatised the seasonal stories: “The children's bridge” and “Winter's still here, Gran' ma !”.Pupils were just excited and curious and had the opportunity to ask them several questions as :”How old are you?” and “How do you feel during the Winter without the sun?” ,”How are your pupils like ?”.Taina answered humorously that in Finland teachers are always 25, and their age doesn't go neither up or down and pupils are the same ALL OVER THE WORLD, while Anne told them that during the winter she feels really sad. They were also surprised hearing Anne talking in Italian !

In the afternoon our guests took an historical tour, guiding Sonia & Alessandro (CICERONES) to the famous cultural heritage: Caorle, Portogruaro and Concordia Sagittaria. The visit was concluded by a gorgeous farewell party at Luciana's house, where our friendship became deeper and closer.

We all wish our cooperation will last after the end of the project !

Drama and musicals in Digranes


The annual drama festival of the younger pupils was held in Digranesskóli on March 25-27. Three different dramas - or stories with songs - were performed by the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade, each of them with its story. Thordis had practised the music and the class-teachers were "producers" and directors.
This is a big occasion and takes time to rehearse. Therefore we have been forced to keep "a low profile" on Comenius Tales activities.
This is the last school week before Easter holidays and we will be not be back until Wednesday April 15. After that we start full course on preparing the Big Comenius Festival, which will be held on April 22.

Food in March

Now than we have learned all about the Christmas, polite words and colours in the language of our partners, we are going to spend more time studying the numbers from one to sixteen. This month we are also going to write letters to our partners telling them some key words about food. We are going to exchange some basic words and learn them in the language of our partners. These words are:



milk, fish, bread, water, meat, butter, cheese, sugar


With these words I shall let here follow a picture which shows how some of the disabled children can express themselves: It says I wish to have an orange.

There are many other ways that disabled children can "talk" and it could be useful for us all to talk about this and find out what other ways there are.

Since our friends, the Hungarians, could not be with us, it occurred to me to let you know these words also in Hungarian. You have perhaps heard that Finnish and Hungarian are related languages. When you have got the Finnish words, you can compare them. Do you find similarities?

Fun with words


It was nice to see the photo of Portuguese pupils learning the partners' languages! We in Iceland have also been studying the words and some of them are really difficult!


Thordis is practising the songs with the pupils and the last season stories are to be finished in the next few days.


February has been cold here in Iceland and we have had a lot of snow. More snow means that the days are lighter and the children have more fun.

Myndin er úr þjóðsögunni um rjúpuna sem neitaði að vaða bál eins og María mey hafði skipað að gera. Hún er ein af þeim sögum sem nemendur okkar unnu að fyrir árstíðarbókina. Hér fyrir neðan sjáið þið portúgölsku nemendurna vinna að orðaþekkingu. Þeir hafa gert stórt plakat með orðunum á öllum tungumálum. Einn nemandi las alltaf eitt orð í einu og bekkurinn endurtók það. Þannig lærðu allir. Kennarinn segir að sum íslensku orðanna voru virkilega erfið.

Learning other languages

In Portugal, we are working and having fun with what we are doing.

We enjoyed very much learning icelandic, finnish and italian. Ricardo and Sérgio read each word and the other students repeated it. It has been very amusing, because there are very difficult words in finnish and icelandic. We found italian words similar to the portuguese ones.

We are also preparing some beautiful portuguese seasonal Tales, such as "The acorn and the pumpkin", or "The almond tree legend".

A very happy new year from Iceland to you all!


Just to tell you shortly what we are going to to this year:

  • All the partners choose four folktales, one concerning each season, summer, autumn, winter and spring, and draw pictures to go with the text. When all the tales are ready, we are going to make a book out of them, a copy for each school - for the new generations to admire, hopefully!

  • We are going to study to words we have sent though the folding game. Now new words in January, but in February we will learn some numbers in three new languages.

  • We are also going to work on songs: a friendship song from each school. - And we hopa that friendship between the partners will go on, even after the formal project is over next spring!

We in Iceland have also made a short video out of the story that the children in Gianni Rodari made (using Icelandic drawings). In the video we used the puppets that the Portuguese children mad last spring. Here you can see a part of the video.

Púma hópur 6. bekkjar Digranesskóli gerði stutt myndband sem er lokastig á samvinnuverkefni vinaskólanna. Upphafið var teikningar sem bekkurinn sendi út fyrir um ári síðan. Ítalir tóku við myndunum, rýndu í þær og sömdu sögu út frá þeim. Potúgalarnir gerðu leikbrúður fyrir ítölsku söguna og sendu brúðurnar svo til okkar. Með brúðurnar og ítalska textann í höndunum gerðum við svo myndbandið nú í desember. Hér birtist hluti af því.
