Portuguese songs

While Maria and Ricardo visited our school in Digranes, they among other things taught the first graders a popular Portuguese children's song and a dance.

Maria og Ricardo, portugölsku kennararnir sem heimsóttu okkur í byrjun febrúar kenndu fyrstu bekkingum vinsælt barnalag og einnig dans sem nemendunum þótti mjög gaman að.

Helmikuussa pidetyn projektikokouksen aikana Maria ja Ricardo, ystävämme Lissabonista, opettivat Digraneskoulun ekaluokkalaisille tunnetun portugalilaisen lastenlaulun ja tanssin.

Portuguese desserts

While our Portuguese gests were here in Iceland, one of them, Maria J. Lucena, showed how to make an easy dessert of pomme granates. You just slice the fruit open and take all the small pieces out of it, minding not to take any white matter with them. You put them on a plate and cast some sugar on them. That's the magic! - The Portuguese have this dessert at New Year and on Three Kings' Day.

Þegar vinir okkar frá Finnlandi og Portugal voru í heimsókn sýndi Maria J. Lucena, tengill portugalska skólans, hvernig hægt er að búa til skemmtilegan eftirrétt á einfaldan hátt. Þessi eftirréttur er hafður í Portugal á nýársdag og einnig gjarnan á þrettándanum.

Uppskriftin er eftirfarandi: Granatepli er skorið sundur frá hliðunum og kjarninn (fræin) tekinn úr en gæta þarf að ekki taka neitt af hvítu efninu með. Fræin eru sett á disk og sykri stráð yfir.

Maria J. Lucena Portugalista esitti, miten voi helpolla saada hyvän jälkiruoan granaattiomenoista. Tämä jälkiruoka on suosittu uudenvuodenpäivänä ja loppiaisena. Omena halkaistaan muutamalla sivuviillolla niin että sisus tulee näkyviin. Siemenet irroitellaan, mutta on pidettävä huolta siitä, ettei yhtään kuoren valkoista ainetta tule mukaan. Kun kaikki siemenet on poistettu, niiden päälle ripotellaan vain sokeria - ja sitten popsimaan!

Maria and her collegue Ricardo also taught the Icelandic children a song and dance, which they liked very much. We hope to put some pictures of it here in the next few days.

Snow, snow and more snow in Iceland

The beginning of February marked a change of weather in Iceland. Suddenly it started snowing and it snowed and snowed and snowed! How the children loved it! They made snowmen and, of course, there was a snow war. In the school yard there is a small mount and only there it is allowed to throw snowballs, so the others have just to do with wrestling.

As this snow covered everything, Digranesskóli had visitors from Portugal and Finland, who had come to discuss the future activities in our project. They all were so happy to see all this snow. Last Friday there was a new turn of weather. Then the wind started blowing and when it was the fastest, it was measured 47 meters per second!!! All this our visitors witnessed and I think that this has been a great adventure for them!

Eins og flestir tóku eftir þá vorum við með gesti frá Finnlandi og Portugal s.l. viku. Þetta voru kennarar vinaskóla okkar og skólastjórinn frá Portugal. Bæði kynntu þeir okkur verk nemenda sinna og voru með sýnikennslu hjá okkur. En aðaltilgangur heimsóknar þeirra var að ræða framvindu verkefnisins Tales of Europe og skipuleggja framhaldið. Skólastjórinn Albertina Sousa heimsótti einnig Hlíðaskóla í Reykjavík og kynnti sér aðlögun heyrnarskertra nemenda í almennum skóla.

Helmikuun alussa sää muuttui Islannissa ja lunta rupesi satamaan taivaan täydeltä. Lumi kasaantui isoiksi kinoksiksi ja siitä syntyi lasten paras maailman! Digraneskoulun pihalla on pieni kukkula ja ainoastaan siellä saa heittää lumipalloja. Niinpä toiset joutuivat tyytymään vain lumipainiin.

"I TRE GIORNI DELLA MERLA"

The last three days of January

One Spring in Milan, many, many years ago, two small, snowy-white birds built a nest in a tall tree in a courtyard of a building near Porta Nuova and raised three chicks during the Summer and Autumn.When Winter came, they moved to a cozy spot just under the roof of the building. The parent birds flew around fron dawn to dusk: it was very difficult to find seeds and insects.

That year, Milan had a bitterly cold, freezing Winter and the last three days of January were the coldest of all. The streets and the rooftops were covered with snow and ice and yhe sky was dark and grey.On the morning of 29 January, the father bird decided to fly far beyond the snow to find food for his family.To protect her young chicks, the mother moved the nest onto the nearby roof, right up a chimney, which gave off warm, thick, black smoke.

The freeze lasted three days and they survived, but when the father returned, he could hardly recognize his family - they were all black from the smoke soot.

On the 1 February, a pale sun rose and began to warm the air and the birds couls finally emerge from the nest.Now even the father was black from contact with his family and the soot.

And that's how "BLACKBIRDS" became black.
